The Bridge Program/Pre-Bridge Program

Through the innovative Bridge Program, a multidisciplinary team of education professionals works closely together to help older students develop the skills they’ll need to transition into adulthood. It is specifically geared for students aged 17-22 who are nearing the completion of their studies at The Learning Center. These students have good work and communication skills and can successfully manage their behavior, but may need help developing sound social networks required to obtain a job, find an apartment and choose a roommate, for example.

bridge program studentThe highly successful Bridge Program is a model for collaboration and teamwork. Our interdisciplinary team members work together to provide students with the appropriate skills they need and match them with community businesses, with whom they can practice these skills. Students in the Bridge Program work at the MSPCA and at Children’s Hospital/Waltham for example through joint, cooperative programs with The Learning Center. Through these and other work and social collaborations, Bridge students are taking successful steps to becoming responsible and productive adults.

The Pre-Bridge program, which was recently introduced at The Learning Center, is for prospective Bridge Program candidates. Students in this program have good work skills but need further social skills and appropriate communication and behavior management skills. Upon developing these skills, they can transition to the Bridge Program.
