Position Announcement
Chief Executive
Officer
The Protestant Guild for Human Services
The
Opportunity.
The Protestant Guild for Human Services (PGHS/the Guild) is a private,
residential, community-based school that serves students with cognitive
disabilities compounded by significant emotional issues, including
autism. Its mission is to help students develop the self-esteem
and skills they need to live as independently as possible within
their communities. The PGHS has an excellent reputation for high-quality,
student-centered services. With 190 staff, a budget of $12 million,
and a healthy endowment, the Guild is well-positioned for continued
impact and relevancy. However, the Guild also faces significant
internal and external challenges, many of which can be translated
into opportunities. These include transitions in Board and executive
leadership, and the ability to attract students in an increasingly
competitive market and volatile economy.
The
Position. At this critical juncture, PGHS seeks a proven leader
with outstanding integrity; someone who has a profound belief in
and passion for the mission, and will steward the organization forward
to ensure its continued health and competitiveness. Reporting to
and working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Chief
Executive Officer will provide leadership to the Board in setting
strategic direction and shaping policy, will oversee PGHS operations
and be accountable for PGHS's overall management and performance.
S/he will balance financial and programmatic needs and will create
a cohesive and high-performing senior management team. S/he will
foster a public presence for the organization and advocate on behalf
of special needs issues. S/he will cultivate trusting, open communications
and collaborations with many key stakeholder groups, including private
and public organizations, public officials at all levels of government,
and the communities PGHS is a part of.
Qualifications.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a strategic and tactical leader
with vision and a high level of commitment and integrity. The strong
candidate will have a track record of success in directing fast-paced,
multi-faceted organizations with complex programmatic and administrative
demands. S/he will have a strong understanding of programs and the
ability to drive organizational transformation while maintaining
the strength and stability of programs and finances. With an unshakeable
drive for excellence, s/he will be a results-oriented, creative
and innovative thinker who is able to translate ideas into reality.
S/he will understand trends, realities and opportunities in the
special needs and social services delivery world, and will lead
the organization in identifying and guiding students toward feasible
options following graduation.
